Getting to and around Izmir

Getting around the city
- Metro and tram: the metro crosses the city from east to west. Tram lines run in Konak, Karşıyaka and Çiğli.
- İZBAN: the commuter train runs north to south along the gulf, as far as Selçuk.
- Ferries: ferries cross the gulf between Konak, Pasaport, Alsancak, Karşıyaka, Bostanlı and Göztepe.
- Transport card: public transport is paid with the rechargeable İzmirim Kart.
- Taxis: taxis are yellow and use a meter.
By air
Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) is about 18 km south of the city centre. It has international flights to many European cities and domestic flights, including frequent connections via Istanbul and Ankara. Direct routes can change with the season.
From the airport to the city
The İZBAN commuter train has a station at the airport and runs north through the city centre. Airport shuttle buses and taxis are also available.
Entry to Turkey
Visa rules depend on your nationality. Some visitors can enter without a visa; others can apply for an e-Visa online on the official website of the Republic of Türkiye before travelling. Please check the current rules for your country.

- Language: Turkish. English is often spoken in central and tourist areas.

- Pharmacies: a pharmacy is called eczane. A duty pharmacy (nöbetçi eczane) is open at night and on holidays.
